Barrier Free Website

Many older people have a disability of some sort. This could include mobility impairment, poor vision, hearing impairment or loss of memory, amongst other disabilities. ASCCA believes that all older people should have access to information technology, through seniors computer clubs or the internet. ASCCA has developed a Barrier Free Access website to assist clubs provide access to their facilities and ensure appropriate communication with members or potential members with a disability.

Internet Safety

ASCCA encourages all clubs and members of clubs to use a range of tools to ensure Internet Safety. ASCCA supported the federal government's National E-Safety Week in June 2008 its associated Stay Smart Online website.

Avoiding Scams

ASCCA supports government initiatives to alert consumers to scams. A scam is the offer of a service or product which is not what it seems. It might be an offer of a product for free or what appears to be a significant discount. Or it might be a service which does not deliver on its promise and/or costs much more than the purchaser thought when entering into the contract.

Vista for Clubs

Now that Windows Vista has arrived and a growing number of members and enquirers are requesting assistance with this new operating system, your club is probably wondering what to do about it. ASCCA has therefore developed a special Vista page, with links to useful sites and tips to assist you and your members effectively plan and implement a program. Telecommunications

Telstra Connecting Seniors initiative

ASCCA has been working with Telstra to promote learning opportunities for seniors to better understand new technology, including effective use of mobile phones, the Internet and email other forms of telecommunication including blogging. Telstra has funding opportunities for computer clubs and for other seniors organisations, and these are outlined on the Telstra Connected Seniors website.

Seniors Telecommunications report

The results of ASCCA's research into the telecommunications needs of older people have been published. You can view the report: Seniors Telecommunication Issues: their interests and concerns in pdf format (336 KB). The report is also available in hard copy from the office for $15 including postage.
