Communicating with people with poor sight
Make sure you:
- Consult with the person as to the type of communication needed eg large font, disk, Braille, text-to-speech
- Verbalise all information and directions (do not point)
- Use usual volume and tone
- Be informative but not curt
- Check if the query has been answered and understood
- Ask if further assistance is required.
- Check out relevant software and hardware for people with low vision.
Encourage your friends with poor sight to take up computing. Most will not be aware of the opportunities presented by the vast array of adaptive technology available.
