Peel SeniorNet Association Inc.

Peel SeniorNet Association Inc (PSN) was formed in 1999 as a computer club for people aged 55 and over. Its formation came as a result of an inspiring visit from the late Dr Hilda des Arts, who helped form the first SeniorNet in Ipswich, Queensland.

PSN is entirely run by volunteers with an interest in computing. Recognising that the internet in particular has the capacity to open up a whole new lease of life for seniors, they have assisted in "bridging the digital divide" for hundreds of seniors in the Peel region over the past eight years by helping them accept and utilise information and communication technology.

One of PSN's strength is its Buddy system. The Buddy system is comprised of a number of volunteers who offer their services to assist members having computer or internet related problems. Each Buddy is allocated an area near their home and they make themselves available to provide assistance over the phone. They will also conduct home visits when required.

Peel SeniorNet was instrumental in establishing the dedicated computer training room at the Mandurah City Senior Citizens Centre in 2002. Members of PSN have also assisted with the formation of computer clubs in Leederville, Albany, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.

More recently, in 2006, Peel SeniorNet was successful in securing funding through the Western Australian Department of Education & Training's First Click program to provide free computer training for seniors in the wider community. Classes were conducted at the Mandurah City Senior Citizens Centre and the Billy Dower Youth Centre. Due to the success of the program, PSN was subsequently approved for a further two years funding to deliver both First and Second Click courses.
