HISTORY OF CLUB:

The Uniting Church at Strathfield has been running an outreach for seniors arts for the last 27 years - oil painting, exercises, crafts, history and the arts. All the many church halls and rooms were set aside for use by the "School" each Friday during Public School terms.

Some time in the past the School for Seniors evolved, with its own Board and President.

In 1997, President George Hallworth contacted the Strathfield Rotary Club asking for someone to tell his school members something about computers. Rotarian Fred Haddon then set up the Computer division within the School for Seniors, obtaining software from Microsoft (Windows 2000 and XP) and computers from local businesses. Older but suitable skilled teachers, including two other Rotary members were recruited to run three classes from very raw beginners to more advanced (can use a mouse and keyboard = advanced) each Friday in school terms. About up to 16 students per class with nine wireless networked computers on broadband.

Student donation is $15 per term, and tutors donate their time free.
