Club history and features

Since its inception in May 1992, the Moocooboola Computer Club for Seniors Inc. has been fortunate to have the support of Hunters Hill Council which has provided the Club with secure, lock up premises at the Gladesville Road Community Centre, 44 Gladesville Road, Hunters Hill 2110.

From the initial group of 10, the Club has grown to well over 100 members with many more people waiting "in the wings" to join when there is a vacancy.

Moocooboola does not operate a "class room" training system. There is no pressure and each member proceeds at his/her own pace. Each member is allocated to a particular computer and completes assignments using the PC Simplicity series of manuals which cover the Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher programs. At each session there are a number of trainers in attendance who assist members as they progress. Members learn how to send emails and to search the Internet and to use some of the latest technology, such as storage of and access to digital photographs and copying and viewing CD's and DVD's.

During each session there is a break for light refreshments and to give members an opportunity to chat with trainers and other members and get to know them.

Moocoo News, the Club's newsletter is published bi-monthly and distributed to members either by email or at each training session.

The Club could be called a single purpose community organisation. All members of the Committee and the trainers are volunteers who willingly give of their time to share their knowledge of using computers. Fees are kept at a reasonable level and all money collected by way of joining and course fees is used to pay the Club's operating expenses.

Training sessions are held during February to December each year on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10.00am - 12noon and from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, with an extra session on Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
