Avalon Computer Pals for Seniors commenced training in May 2000, with 88 pupils and 10 trainers. With four computers, two printers and a scanner, we are able to offer seniors the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to cope with the world of computers. There is one trainer to two students, and each student has the use of a computer. The students feel comfortable being in a classroom with others of a similar age, taught by trainers in the same age group, in a stress-free, friendly environment. Instead of feeling like strangers in the computer-based community, they can become familiar with the use of computers and the opportunities offered by the Internet.
Our trainers are all volunteers, and willingly give their time to help the students gain the knowledge their grandchildren take for granted.
The Club has continued to develop and local demand has resulted in the club’s membership continually flourishing, with the result that there are now 15 trainers involved in supporting our members to come to terms with the “demon” computer.
The clubroom is located in the hall under the Catholic Church, 7 Central Road, Avalon. There is ample parking, with level access to the centre.
