Canterbury City Computer Club for Seniors, established under the guidelines of the Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association, (ASCCA) is a non profit community club whose members share their computer knowledge, successes and problems with others. Our Aim is to introduce other people to the many different reasons to use a computer.
We provide one to one tuition for beginners and advanced users covering many software programmes such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Paint, Photoshop, Open Office, Picassa, VOIP, Internet and email.
We also have special interest groups: Digital cameras, making slide show of photos and using image software to repair old or damaged photos. We also have demonstrations of transferring music from vinyl records to CDs and scanning slides and photos to DVD. Members interested in genealogy meet at Campsie library family history centre for assistance in research.
The Canterbury Mariners are a group of volunteers who meet on the first Friday of the month with the purpose of transcribing handwritten lists of passengers and crew from shipping arrivals in Sydney Cove from 1850 -1900. This is an easy reason to use a computer and also help others who are searching for family history information.
The club is also affiliated with SMUG (Sydney Microcomputer User Group). The group meets on the third Saturday of the month to look at the workings of a computer, the hardware, software and new technology.
Additionally, we offer a telephone help service for members who have a computer problem at home.
Visitors and members are invited to our monthly meeting held on the first Wednesday of the month at 2pm.
